Nostalgia for Unity?

Can anyone tell me what Camus means when he says "the mind that aims to understand reality can consider itself satisfied only by reducing it to terms of thought.If man realized that the universe like him can love and suffer, he would be reconciled."....Isn't this a contradiction itself ? He says that "That nostalgia for unity, that appetite for the absolute illustrates the essential impulse of the human drama." How?.....I do not relate to nostalgia for unity, though an appetite for absolute is undeniably there.
